about Guy Young...
Imagine walking into a venue and finding someone with almost a quarter of a century's worth of presenting skills, with a vocal style and musicianship honed from childhood, then developed in some of the toughest clubs in the United Kingdom. What if this person had a repertoire that takes in most of the 'crowd-pleasers' from the last six decades and then goes way beyond that. Imagine it was your venue, and you had booked this person. Then stop imagining - make it real. Give Guy a call!
2016 was the year that I celebrated a quarter of a century in this business. That's 25 years of entertaining people with music. You can't do it for that long without learning a bit about what makes people tick; what people like to hear at certain times. Over time, you get a canny knack of working out what music people like - often just by looking at your audience! I did it to good effect over 25 years as a disc jockey during the 1990s and 2000s. I am proud to have won awards that were voted for by the people that matter - the general public. Over the last 6 years, I have taken the daunting leap of faith from playing records (then cds and finally mp3s) onto performing the songs myself. Transferring those skills from one form of music performance to another was actually quite naturally achieved. At the very end of 2016, I was proud to receive the coveted Guitar/Vocalist of the Year Award from the Birmingham Entertainment Secretaries Council. Into 2018, and I still enjoy playing every song - whether it's for the first time, or one that gets sung 50 times a year - just like I did in the pubs and clubs 20 + years ago. Whether I am playing my general covers show, one of my two new themed shows, or my new tribute to Jeff Lynne 's ELO show - called ELOquence - the fun I am having is obvious and infectious.
Come and have a look! My next few shows are displayed on my "Come see about me" page. You are welcome to any of these shows. See you there?
